Painting

Tue Nov 17, 2009, 7:00 AM
I have recently gotten in the 'business' of finally selling my paintings. I think I am getting somewhere with my art, it is speaking to the viewer and leaving enough of an impact that they feel the need to own it. It gives me a certain pride knowing that I can create something that people will gladly go out of their way to make there own.

Along with selling a couple canvases here and there, I have three paintings and a series lined up as comissions. SOOOO for you followers out there, keep in mind that painting for you makes my world.

In depth painting blog.

Wed Sep 30, 2009, 11:38 PM
One of my professors, Lynette Vought, a well established artist has an art blog. Here, she shows her work and provides a brief explaination of her works. I've decided to start one as well. Every day I will make a new post of a painting or a series and explain the piece(s) in depth. I list the following:
.photo of work(s) which is conected to dA
.genre
.size
.medium
.date

.influence(s)-here I list any influences I came across related and leading up to the work.

.technique-as most of my abstract work is done somewhat unconventionally, I explain processes and reasons for them.

.theme and reasoning-a breif overview of any themes and where I came up with them.

.concept-an in depth look of the conceptual aspects of the work(s). Here, I talk about composition and aesthetic in relation to the concepts.

.critique-IF I get any critiques, I'll pop them in here. That's where you come in!

.If the painting has been bought or given away, here it is.

I like this blog thing because I can really talk about the work in depth. On here I feel the majority of people could care less of concept and the path one goes through to get the end result, that the general audience doesn't stop and think about a piece, they judge by how pretty the colors are. Obviously not everyone is on this level and I know some people thrive on concept, so if you do, try to figure it out here first, then go to my blog to see what I thought about it. The blog will only have completed paintings and will be much more organized than I have been on dA. I know there is a bigger audience than I'm reaching on dA, I want to touch lives with my paintings.

Another reason is because Lynette was trying to get me to explain a sketch of mine and its concepts and I just couldn't do it out loud. I'm not sure why, I can write all day about a piece, but when asked to verbalize it I just go with, "I don't know, its... I don't know, you figure it out." Now she can hear all the concept she can handle when it comes to my paintings.

So if you're interested (you better be): [link]

Also, if you're interested, even a little, in critiquing art you can definitely practice on mine. I'd love to hear any constructive input you have to offer. If you're nervous try this site as a guidline: [link]

I want my own site. crystalbuchanan.com? Sounds good to me, anyone want to build it for me... for free?

For my drawing class, I'm doing a tessellation. If you don't know what a tessellation is, shame on you, go figure it out! It is the most difficult thing I've ever attempted! I have so much respect for that man, he's a genius! I was looking through a book of his tessellations and many of them were not finish, they were just sketches. These sketches showed how he pieced everything together and surprisingly he was very mathematical about it. I still can't completely figure it out, I'm kind of winging it. I better figure it out fast though, it's all due on Wednesday.

Ugh!

I always get the most powerful hiccups!
They don't just come out, they explode out of my throat and jolt my entire body!
And if I let my mouth open to really let them out, they're uncontrollably loud!
They are so ginormous, they actually hurt!
And they never go away!
I'm trying to go to sleep!
But I can't!
They keep coming!
